Johnny D. King
Johnny D. King has been Property Assessor of Sevier County since 1992. He grew up in the Pittman Center area and is a graduate of Gatlinburg-Pittman High School and East Tennessee State University. He has completed graduate work in banking at the University of Oklahoma. His prior experience includes twenty one years of banking, appraisal and management in commercial and residential properties. He is a past president of the East Tennessee Property Assessors Association. He continues to serve on a local bank's board and is active in his church, community activities and farming with his family. He is well known in the community as Sevier County's "Friendly Property Assessor". Important Dates:January 1 - Tax bills are sent out (property sold during the year is for the following tax year / taxes are not prorated) March 1 - Deadline to register for Greenbelt (15 acres or more, used for agriculture purposes) March 1 - Personal property schedules are due May - Assessment change notices are mailed to property owners who have had a change in their appraisal and assessment for the previous year June 1 - The County Board of Equalization begins meetings to hear appeals
Additional Information:As of January 2003, Sevier County had in excess of 65,000 parcels Greenbelt property is subject to a roll-back tax once the land ceases to qualify for Greenbelt. The roll-back tax is the amount of taxes saved in the last three years by the property being Greenbelt
